Notes on writing for search and for answers
Updated 22 September 2026. By Found.
People still type queries into Google. They also ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity who to hire. SEO is the work of being the page worth ranking. GEO, short for generative engine optimization, is the work of being a company an answer can name and a sentence it can quote. One did not cancel the other.
These five notes are about that split. Each one is dated 22 September 2026. Found sells a free score and a one-time report. The launch price is $49. The regular price is $199. The notes themselves are free to use. There is no posting calendar here, and there is no pack of prompts.
What these notes will not do
- They will not tell you that SEO is finished.
- They will not quote a traffic percentage we did not measure.
- They will not tell you to paste a keyword into a chatbot and ship whatever comes back.
- They will not pretend that a scoring rule on our site is a checklist every assistant shares.
Harborline, a warehouse-software firm, shows up as a worked example. We invented it. It is not a customer, and it is not the Helio Metrics row in the product screenshots.
If you want the same scorecard run on your own URL, the Found Score is free. Start at See my score. The weights and the ladder sit in the scoring methodology, in public, on purpose.
The notes
- Search still ranks pages. Answers now name companies. Updated 22 September 2026. Google still returns links. ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity often return names. What that changes in the writing, and what it does not.
- Write the sentence you want quoted Updated 22 September 2026. A sentence worth quoting names the company, states a checkable fact, and still makes sense if the rest of the page is cut.
- Five pages to publish before you start a blog Updated 22 September 2026. Publish five pages before a blog: homepage, price, about, one buyer question, and a dated index. Generic posts can wait.
- Keep the keyword. Change the page it points at. Updated 22 September 2026. Keep the keyword list. Point it at a page that answers the question in the first paragraph, without a second site for chat.
- If you can delete your name, do not publish the page Updated 22 September 2026. Swap your name for a rival's. If the draft stays true, it is not about you. That is the edit worth doing before you publish.
